Hypnosis for Hair Pulling and Skin Picking

If you pull your hair or pick at your skin, you’re far from alone. Many people do it quietly for years, often feeling embarrassed or frustrated that they can’t just stop.

These habits, sometimes called body-focused repetitive behaviours, aren’t a character flaw. They’re usually the mind’s way of coping with stress, tension, boredom or overwhelm. Hypnosis offers a gentle way to calm those urges and build new responses.

Understanding the urge

Pulling and picking often happen:

  • automatically, while reading, studying, driving or using a phone
  • in response to stress, anxiety or difficult feelings
  • when you notice a hair or a spot that feels “wrong”
  • at the end of the day, when you’re tired or alone

Many people describe a build-up of tension followed by brief relief, then regret. Willpower alone rarely breaks that loop, because much of it happens outside conscious awareness.

How hypnosis can help

Hypnosis is a natural state of focused relaxation. In it, your mind is more receptive to new ways of thinking and responding.

Together we’ll work on:

  • Calming the nervous system, so the urge has less fuel
  • Earlier awareness, so you notice the urge before your hands act on it
  • New responses that ease the tension in a kinder way
  • Self-compassion, replacing shame with patience, which makes change easier

Progress is often gradual. We focus on steady improvement, not perfection.

Working alongside your other support

Hypnosis isn’t a replacement for medical or mental health care. If you’re seeing a doctor, psychologist or therapist, hypnosis can work well alongside that support. If your skin is injured or infected, please see your doctor.
